Day of great tit

November 12 – Day of great tit, which can be called "the holiday of meeting wintering birds". This day is celebrated not only to draw attention to the beautiful and extremely useful bird, but also to remind people once again of the need to support birds in winter.

Great tits, like many other birds, are our tireless helpers in the fight against insects, pests of gardens. In winter, tits often move closer to humans, in gardens and parks. Exactly in winter it is necessary to feed the birds.

What can you feed the birds in winter?

• Sunflower seeds (not roasted)

• Millet

• Pumpkin seeds

• Crumbs of dry white bread

• Bunches of rowan and elderberry collected from trees

• Ash seeds

• Weed seeds

Creating your own feeders and feeding birds can be a real family pastime. This is a great opportunity to instill in children a love for nature and involve them in work. The feeder can be made by any of available means. As a material can be used plastic bottles, twigs, plywood, boxes of juice or milk.

Last year, Mykolaiv Zoo created an art object – "Restaurant for birds". The art object demonstrates examples of different feeders that each of you can make on your own to support the birds in winter. Also near the art object you will find information about what exactly you can feed the birds.

Visit Mykolaiv Zoo and give yourself and your children not only a good walk, but also an opportunity to acquaint children with the rules of helping our feathered friends.
