International Birdwatching Days

International Days of Autumn Birdwatching are held from September 30 to October 1. This is an annual event that has been held in many countries around the world for over 30 years. Everyone can take part in the action, both professional ornithologists and just nature lovers of any age. The purpose of birdwatching is to draw public attention to the problem of bird conservation, as well as to involve as many bird watchers as possible. The results are reported to the national offices (in Ukraine – the office of the Society for the Protection of Birds of Ukraine, Kyiv), after which the observation data are sent to the office of the International Society for the Protection of Birds (UK, Bird life international). The conclusions of the action are published in national and international ornithological journals.

An interesting and fascinating world of birds! They play an important role in nature – they destroy many pests, fill the forests with their melodious singing. Birds are an important component of any ecosystem. And they have become an integral part of human existence. It is for these reasons that they are given every human attention, including the celebration of special dates at the international level.

Traditionally young biologists of Mykolaiv Zoo actively joined autumn observations of birds. The children got acquainted with the rich avifauna of the zoo, learned about bird species and ornithological tourism. The young naturalists learned to observe birds with binoculars, to use field markers of birds. The children also used modern gadgets to study birds. For example, young people learned to recognize birds by their voices using sound recordings.
