A miracle happened in the Butterfly Garden of Nikolaev zoo. Argema mimosae was born – a night giant butterfly from the Saturniidae family. It is called the Lunar mole. Inhabits in the tropics of East Africa. Wingspan 100 - 140 mm. Females are larger than males, do not fly and do not feed, they do not even have a trunk for feeding. They live only a few days at the expense of the nutrients accumulated by the caterpillar. Males fly in search of females, mating occurs after the meeting, then egg laying. By this the life of giant beauties ends - they are dying. Nature decided so that everything takes 5-6 days.
