Four years have passed since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion. Four years ago, at dawn, explosions rang out and death descended upon Ukraine. Four years ago, children were awakened not by a gentle “Good morning, wake up!”, but by the terrifying words, “Get up, war has begun!”
Many zoo employees are currently serving on the front lines. Three of our men have returned “on their shields.”
For four years, the zoo has lived under the threat of shelling, facing problems with water, electricity, and heating, while making every effort to keep our animals warm and properly fed.
During the years of war, thousands of visitors have come to the zoo. For many of them, simply being close to animals has helped them cope with stress, recover, and find a sense of calm. Perhaps it is in zoos that children can still feel what childhood is meant to be.
Together we will prevail! Glory to Ukraine!
