7 July marks Nature Reserve Workers' Day in Ukraine.
Nature Reserve Workers' Day was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 629/2009 of 18 August 2009 and has been celebrated annually on 7 July. The purpose of this day is to support nature conservation, recognize the significant contribution of dedicated professionals and caring citizens, and honour their efforts to preserve our natural heritage for future generations.
Today, being a guardian of nature in Ukraine is an act of quiet courage. Despite the immense challenges our country faces, nature reserves, national parks, and protected areas continue to be carefully safeguarded. Recent years have become an enormous test for Ukraine's ecosystems. Yet it is during these exceptionally difficult times that the true strength and resilience of Ukraine's protected area network have been demonstrated.
Despite all the challenges of living and working in a frontline region, Mykolaiv Zoo continues to provide a safe haven for hundreds of unique animal species. At the same time, our colleagues in nature reserves and national parks, working under shelling and in times of crisis, continue to protect Ukraine's unique steppes, forests, and wetlands, document environmental crimes, and carry out ecological monitoring.
Together, we share a common mission: nature reserves protect wildlife in its natural habitats, while we conserve and breed rare species under human care, creating a secure genetic reserve for the future.
We sincerely congratulate all Nature Reserve Workers on their professional holiday! We wish you good health, continued success in your demanding yet vitally important work, inspiring new ideas, and, above all, peaceful skies!
