Happy birthday, Urman!
In the family of Amur leopards (lat. Panthera pardus orientalis) Rayo and Eva, on the International Jaguar Day on November 29, 2019, a son Urman was born. Today our birthday boy Urman celebrates his first birthday. By nature he is an active and playful boy. Urman still lives in the same enclosure with his mother. In the future, according to the European Endangered Species Programme and in accordance with the recommendations of the program coordinator, Urman will be transferred to another zoo.
The Amur leopard (lat. Panthera pardus orientalis) is one of the rarest and most beautiful cats in the world, and it is also an important part of the ecosystem. This unique animal is listed in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It is considered a symbol of the fragility and vulnerability of natural ecosystems.
The main reasons for the reduction of leopard populations are the destruction of their habitats, reduction of forage base and poaching.
Mykolaiv Zoo, keeping and successfully breeding Amur leopards, contributes to the preservation of these beautiful animals.
Interesting to know!!! The first pair of leopards in our zoo appeared in 1980. And from 1995 to 2019, 15 cubs were born. It is no secret that the conservation of the species largely depends on the reproduction of rare animals in zoos.
