Penelopa the tigress has died

Today we say goodbye to one of our Amur tigress sisters – Penelopa. This is a great loss for our zoo, as she was one of its oldest residents.

Penelopa was born at Mykolaiv Zoo on September 21, 2005, and lived a long life for a tiger – more than 20 years. During her lifetime, she became the mother of 20 cubs, all sired by the male Helios. Her sister, Agryppina, still lives at our zoo, and visitors can see her in the enclosure of the “Island of Animals” complex.

It is sad to realize that even the longest life eventually comes to an end. Penelopa will forever remain in our hearts and in the memories of our staff and visitors as an inseparable part of the long and rich history of Mykolaiv Zoo.

May our Penelopa rest in peace.
