Our traditional spring messages are stories about younglings born in Mykolaiv Zoo. Today we will tell you about the ungulates that were recently born, and which you can see with us right now!
A very cute, "plush" female llama (Lama glama) named Nonna was born in Mykolaiv Zoo on February 2, 2024.
The calf's mother's name is Baleryna, father's name is Klym. Immediately after birth, the little llama and her mother were separated from the main group in the room of the "camel pen" so that the animals would feel calmer. And when little Nonna grew up, and with the onset of warm weather, the family of llamas was transferred to a large enclosure, which is located next to the summer enclosure for giraffes. This enclosure, which was equipped recently, has a significant area, natural vegetation, natural soil. This is where you can now see the calf.
On March 22, 2024, a raven-spotted Shetland pony foal (Equus ferus caballus) was born. His mother is Popeliushka, and his father's name is Valet. Valet is a "replaced" pony, he was brought in May 2022 from the village of Posad-Pokrovske in the Kherson region, at that time there was active combat operations there. A family of ponies with the youngster can be seen in the enclosure to the right of the camel enclosure.
The group of Bactrian camels (Camelus bactrianus) is also replenished. On April 4, 2024, a male was born to a camel named Zaytuna. The father of the newborn is Sultan. A few days after birth, the camel was moved with his mother to a room where it is warmer and more comfortable, but now the youngster can already be seen in the enclosure in the fresh air.
All our young mothers are very caring, feed the younglings, take care of them and are waiting for you to visit!
