The column "Cozy corners of the zoo" today shows the luxurious blooming almond trees.
Almond is a fruit tree that has been cultivated for a long time and is one of the first to bloom. There are two types of almonds: bitter, which has a strong aroma, and sweet, which is less aromatic. Sweet almonds are widely used in cooking, in the production of sweets, chocolate, and some types of liqueurs. In Switzerland, there is a tradition of putting one almond nut in the Christmas cake. It is believed that whoever gets it will certainly be rich in the coming year. Fragrant bitter almonds are used in cosmetology, the perfumery industry, for example, in the manufacture of expensive types of soap.
And the blooming almond tree is an incredibly beautiful phenomenon. Just now, blooming almond trees can be found in Mykolaiv Zoo around the "Goat Hill" enclosure for mountain ungulates. Also, on the lawns of the zoo, you can now see whole meadows of blooming wood violets and bright yellow stars-of-Bethlehem.
