Solemn event

Finally! Waited till this day comes! Opening of the complex of enclosures for large land animals - "Ukrainian Safari".

On September 15, 2019, a solemn event dedicated to the opening of the enclosures of the "Ukrainian Safari" complex took place in the territory of Mykolaiv zoo. Also on this day, we first showed our visitors new zoo settlers - the Rothschild giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi).

Construction of the complex began in 2014 with the action "Daddy, I want a giraffe." The enclosure project was commissioned for the raised funds. For several years, the construction of modern comfortable enclosures for giraffes took place, which have become then one of the best in Europe. It took a considerable amount of time to negotiate with colleagues from other zoos around the world about delivering giraffes. It took 5 years to implement the dream - from the beginning of project development to delivery of giraffes to Mykolaiv. Today, all visitors can finally see our long-necked beauties!

Honorary guests of our holiday were people who made a great contribution to the construction of the new exhibition. Today they were awarded with the Memorial sign of Mykolaiv zoo and pleasant souvenirs. Among them: the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Syenkevych, the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 7th and 8th convocation Artem Ilyuk, the head of LLC Mykolaivmiskbud Myhaylo Zheldubayev, zootechnician of department of ungulates Vira Zhuravlyova, the head of Mykolaiv committee of trade union of workers of state institutions Tamila Bugayenko, the great-grandson of the founder of the zoo Oleksiy Leontovych.

Our friends - the best Mykolaiv artists helped us to make our holiday bright and cheerful! Among them are charming presenters and young vocalist Shalova Sofiya - students of Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts, young dancers of the group “Oksamyt” and “Rhythms of the planet”, gymnasts from “IDance-pole dance studio”, Honored Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Sychyov and drummer Serhiy Shtefan. We thank all talented actors for their help with the holiday and look forward to further cooperation!
