Every year at the end of January, the Great Winter Bird Count is held all over the world. Bird lovers of any age and profession can take part in this event. You can observe birds anywhere: in the yard of your house, in the garden, in the schoolyard, in the city park. The purpose of this record is to determine the number of birds and to find out which species remain to winter near our homes. Another task of the event is to draw attention to the problem of bird conservation.
Due to the simplicity of its implementation and the small amount of time spent, the Great Winter Count found wide support among nature lovers in Ukraine. Young biologists of Mykolaiv Zoo also joined in observing the birds. Young naturalists learned to recognize the birds that live near us, and also got involved in an important task – feeding wintering birds by making eco-feeders with their own hands.
