For a year and a half, Volodymyr Topchy, Director of Mykolaiv Zoo, Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine, together with the zoo’s staff, worked on the development of the “Standard Occupational Safety Rules for Zoos in Ukraine”.
In preparing the document, the “Occupational Safety and Industrial Sanitation Rules” published in 1974 were used as a basis. New sections were also developed and added in accordance with the current requirements of Ukrainian legislation. The document provides an expanded analysis of potential hazards and risks associated with working with different groups of animals.
The draft Rules were discussed and reviewed jointly with representatives of Ukrainian zoos, including Cherkasy, Rivne, Lutsk and Odesa Zoos.
This publication was printed with funding from the Association of Zoos of Ukraine (AZU) and will be distributed to all AZU member zoos.
