World Aquatic Animal Day (WAAD) is celebrated on April 3 – an annual event dedicated exclusively to aquatic animals. The purpose of this day is to spread information about animals that live in or near water. So far, the holiday is little known, as it was held for the first time in 2020.
Young biologists of Mykolaiv Zoo today took part in the celebration of World Aquatic Animal Day, getting acquainted with a large number of hydrobionts during an excursion to the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Hydrometeorology. Young naturalists got acquainted with the work of the center's specialists, were able to personally look into the microscope, saw aquatic animals, plants, interesting collection preparations, herbariums. Among the representatives of the world of living nature, which the young biologists saw, there were microscopic diatoms and infusoria, molluscs and leeches, larvae of dragonflies and caddisflies, and many others. The employees of the center talked about the specifics of their research, observations and expeditions. Young naturalists saw the work of forecasters, looked at various devices that record changes in nature, in weather. The center's researchers answered numerous questions of young biologists.
