European Day of Parks

May 24 – European Day of Parks.

The European Day of Parks was proclaimed by the EUROPARC Federation. It is a European organization that brings together protected areas in 36 European countries. This day was first celebrated in 1999, and is now celebrated annually throughout Europe on May 24. This date was chosen not by chance – on May 24, 1909, the first of nine European national parks was created in Sweden.

The holiday was organized to raise the status of nature reserves in Europe, as well as to publicly support their work. On this day, numerous events are held in and around nature reserves to draw attention to the beauty of nature in Europe and its cultural heritage, highlighting their protection both today and in the future. The European Day of Parks is celebrated on May 24.

Events dedicated to this holiday must be held in protected areas, as well as in the parks themselves. All of them are aimed at drawing people's attention to the natural beauty that surrounds us on the European Day of Parks.
