In October, great apes, the common chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) living in Mykolaiv Zoo, Chilina and Sherman, celebrate their birthdays.
On October 17 is Chilina’s birthday, she turned 13 years old. And on October 20 Sherman was born, he is 5 years old. Chilina and Sherman are brother and sister. They were born in Mykolaiv Zoo, their parents are female Aliti and male Zuli.
Our birthday chimpanzees are different as chalk and cheese. For example, Chilina is pretty communicative, individualistic, jealous, a little cowardly and loves attention. Sherman is very active, copying his behavior from his sisters. He likes the zoo staff to scratch his back and ear in the morning during their visitation. Most often he spends his leisure time with his middle sister Ramina, because she is closer to him in age.
Today, Chilina and Sherman celebrate their birthdays in a family circle with grandmother Ambi, mother Aliti and sister Ramina. Of course, on their birthdays, the heroes of the occasion and the family members received holiday treats. The favorite food in the chimpanzee family is sweet fruits: bananas, dates and figs. As a gift for the birthday apes and all family young biologists of the zoo created sweet pictures and tasty gifts.
