Today marked another significant event for Mykolaiv Zoo! To celebrate the 125th anniversary of our institution, Ukrposhta, Ukraine’s national postal operator, has issued a special postage stamp sheet and an envelope dedicated to our anniversary.
The commemorative stamp sheet features residents of Mykolaiv Zoo: a Rothschild’s giraffe, a maned wolf, a polar bear, a rock hyrax, and the only snow leopard in Ukraine. The issue was created by Ukrainian artist and illustrator Viktor Harkusha, a soldier known by the call sign “Picasso”.
Distinguished city officials gathered for the official first-day cancellation ceremony, which took place at the Mykolaiv Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre.
The denomination of each stamp in the sheet is U. The stamp sheet has a print run of 40,000 copies. In addition, 15,000 “First Day” envelopes and 300 presentation folders have been issued. The stamps can be purchased at Ukrposhta post offices, philatelic shops, and online at Ukrposhta Market.
Thanks to this special stamp issue, the 125th anniversary of Mykolaiv Zoo will now become part of postal catalogues around the world!
