The first irises bloomed in the zoo.

The name of the flowers "iris" comes from the Greek word Iris, which means "rainbow", because they are really almost of all colors of the rainbow. An interesting fact - irises are white, blue, yellow, light blue, peach-colour, but there is no pure red color in the spectrum of the palette of these flowers.

The genus Iris has several hundred species that are common in the Northern Hemisphere, and hybrids and varieties cannot be counted!

It is believed that the popular heraldic symbol fleur de lys is not actually a lily flower, but a stylized image of an iris.

You can see a flowerbed of blooming irises in Mykolaiv Zoo on the territory of a green zone behind enclosures for coatis.
