International Lynx Day

June 11 - International Lynx Day!

From 2019 in Ukraine the beginning of the nature protection program "Let's save a lynx" is announced. This is currently the only comprehensive program in Ukraine, which is designed to ensure sustainable protection of the Eurasian lynx – the largest cat in Europe, which lives also in Ukraine.

During 2019-2022 the program will collect data on the status and abundance of lynx in the Carpathians and Polissya, analyze management in distribution areas, and will develop a national action plan for the conservation of the species. For this purpose, Ukrainian and foreign zoologists, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Forest Agency, administrations and experts of nature reserves and forest lands will be involved.

By protecting the lynx, we will preserve forests and improve the natural living conditions of other forest dwellers as well.

The collection of Mykolaiv zoo also has lynxes that have lived for several decades. There are four of them in the collection, a male Luka, a couple Lupin - Zabava and their son Til, who are waiting for their visitors to celebrate their day together.
