Primroses

Every year we hold an event dedicated to the protection of primroses!

Primroses are amazing plants that have adapted to bloom when there are no leaves on the trees in the forest, and every warm ray of sunlight reaches the very ground, as well as when there is still a lot of moisture in the steppe. Many primroses have a very bright color and spectacular appearance, which makes the plants attractive to lovers of bouquets of wildflowers, as well as to gardeners who dream of growing such plants in their yard.

But most of these plants are rare, listed in the Red Book. Such flowers require special conditions for themselves, a special microclimate and soil properties, so they do not take root very well in a flower bed. Most primroses grow in pristine, virgin areas, mainly in the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund.

You can also see primroses in the Mykolaiv region. Already now, Elwes's snowdrops are blooming in the gullies on the banks of the Tiligul estuary. The slopes of the estuaries are covered with a yellow carpet of Gymnospermium odetianum. Very soon, the steppe gullies will be covered with fiery spots of pheasant's-eyes, and a little later, wild flowers of all colors of the rainbow – irises – will bloom. All these flowers are incredibly beautiful and need protection!

Unfortunately, such natural areas are currently very vulnerable. They are being destroyed for the cultivation of agricultural products, used for forestry, for mining, for construction. Primroses are massively collected by the local population for sale. Now, during the war, huge areas of protected areas, unfortunately, have been destroyed along with unique plants as a result of hostilities.

Everyone can contribute to the preservation of wild primroses so that your children and grandchildren can admire the miracle of flowering!

We appeal to farmers and forestry workers: “Only you can save tiny areas of wildlife from plowing and the creation of industrial forest plantations!”

We appeal to citizens living near places where primroses grow: “Do not collect wild plants as planting material for your flower beds or for sale – these plants grow very poorly in flower beds or flower gardens!”

We appeal to everyone who can see “miserable entrepreneurs” in the markets who sell bouquets of wild flowers or planting material dug up in nature: “Do not buy these plants, because there are a huge number of varieties of cultivated flowers that are specially grown for you! Give preference to them when buying flowers in specialized stores!”

We appeal to travelers who are resting in the wild: “Do not litter your vacation spots, do not pick wild flowers for bouquets, do not trample them.” And we appeal to teachers, journalists, bloggers – to everyone who can spread this information: “Help bring this knowledge to the largest possible audience, because the efforts of each of us can help preserve the beauty of wild nature!”
