The old grandmother chimpanzee Ambi died

Unfortunately, we have sad news for you today – the old grandmother chimpanzee Ambi died at the age of 57. She turned out to have age-related diseases incompatible with life. But she lived a long life, was a long-time resident of our zoo. Ambi previously lived in the Netherlands, in 2004 she was transferred to Mykolaiv Zoo together with her daughter Aliti and two other chimpanzees of different blood. Ambi could be easily distinguished from other animals by her characteristic pose – she almost always held one hand on her head. For all these 20 years of life in our zoo, Ambi became the founder of the family and the oldest in the group, she had three grandchildren and helped her daughter Aliti raise them. She had a calm, balanced character without any signs of aggression.

Ambi's death is a significant loss for Mykolaiv Zoo, but the memory of her will forever remain in our hearts and in the history of our zoo.
