Jaws of Megalodon

Mykolaiv Zoo always tries to surprise and delight its visitors. And now we have an interesting novelty for you again. A new photo zone has appeared in our zoo - the reconstruction of the real jaws of Megalodon, which are located in the pavilion of butterflies on the territory of the zoo.

Megalodon is an extinct species of mackerel sharks that existed about 20 to 3 million years ago. Its representatives were the largest sharks of all time. Since the only finds of this extinct species were teeth, we can only judge by them and imagine what size this shark really was. The size of their teeth can reach 17-18 cm, so approximate estimates of its body length today are 15-20 m, and the size of the mouth of this species is estimated to be so big that there could be easily placed an adult at a full height.
