January 26 is World Environmental Education Day.
This is another day in the "ecological calendar", which emphasizes the importance of educating children and young people in the principles of respect for the surrounding nature and the need to spread environmental knowledge.
The main goal of this holiday is to popularize environmental knowledge and educate people's environmental culture, this holiday emphasizes the importance of environmental education and the role it plays in shaping a sustainable future.
Environmental education is one of the main functions of a modern zoo. It is zoos with a collection of a wide variety of animals that are a place where environmental education can be made not only not boring, but, on the contrary, very interesting for both children and adults, and also made very effective, that is, one that will really affect people's consciousness, since they receive environmental knowledge in combination with communication with wonderful animals, the formation of a good attitude towards which, in fact, environmental education is aimed.
Mykolaiv Zoo implements a wide variety of activities aimed at the environmental education of our guests. We talk about animals, their importance and the need for protection in educational visuals, articles, videos, during excursions, and classes for young biologists. We can call our interesting environmental projects very successful, such as the lecture series "Animals in Mystical Legends and Nature" (for Halloween) or the series "Year of the Snake" (for Chinese New Year). During these lectures, we paid special attention to animals of our fauna, for example, snakes, which are often the object of persecution by humans, or cute, completely harmless insectivorous animals – bats, which have become very rare, including due to the negative attitude of people. We hope that Mykolaiv Zoo is a place for many of our guests where you can not only spend quality leisure time, but also learn many interesting facts about wildlife!
