Enrichment of feline habitat

Today, the employees of the department of carnivorous animals together with the young naturalists of the zoo carried out another enrichment of the habitat of the animals. This time it was olfactory enrichment for different species of felines. The animals reacted to the enrichment in different ways: the young female jaguar Polya reacted very actively, putting on a real spectacle, the adult male leopards Rayo and Aldan were also very interested in the olfactory elements, as was Tashi, the female snow leopard. But the young mother puma Anda, when an unusual object appeared, ran away herself and did not let the children near it – well, what do you want, a mother is a mother, she always worries about her cubs, and what if it is dangerous!

The young naturalists recorded the results of the experiment, taking photos and videos, learned to analyze what they saw, investigate the reasons for the animals' behavior, and ask questions.

Such enrichments are beneficial for animals, as they give them the opportunity to diversify their behavior, bring new experiences, interesting for visitors who can observe the behavior of animals in the zoo. And, of course, they are both useful and interesting for young scientists!
