Happy birthday, Bayun!

And again in Mykolaiv Zoo, namely, in the carnivores department, there is a holiday!

There is a birthday boy in the Cat family. Today, March 10, 2021, is the birthday of the male cougar (Lat. Puma concolor) named - Bayun. He turns 12 years old, he was born in Mykolaiv Zoo. His parents' names were Fedot and Fyokla, they were also born in our zoo. Fyokla was a good mother, she always fed her children herself.

By nature Bayun is contact, well obeys the zoo staff who care for him.

Our birthday boy had a couple, female named Agatha, who was born on April 5, 2009 in Rivne Zoo. From this couple 8 cubs were born in different years. Agatha was a very caring mother who fed her cubs herself. Bayun and Agatha's children now live in various zoos in Ukraine, and one male named Lubomyr lives in a cat park in France (Nesle). Unfortunately, Agatha is not with us today…

In our zoo, apart from Bayun, lives his son Arman, who was born on June 7, 2015.

The diet for cougars in Mykolaiv Zoo consists of beef, chicken and by-products (pork hearts). They are fed once a day. Periodically they receive live food.

Interesting to know!!! Cougars in Mykolaiv Zoo lived in the old zoo territory in the 70s of the XX century. 88 cubs were born during this whole period of keeping cougars.
