Day of Veterinary Medicine Workers

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No 1035/2001 of November 1, 2001, Day of Veterinary Medicine Workers is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of August. The main purpose of this day is to "note the significant contribution of veterinary medicine workers in ensuring veterinary and epizootic welfare, veterinary and sanitary safety of livestock products and environmental protection".

In 2021 Day of Veterinary Medicine Workers falls on August 8.

The term "veterinarian" (Lat. veterinarius) comes from Latin and literally translates as a person who "has to do with working cattle".

The work of a veterinarian is an extremely responsible business which requires great willpower, patience and, most importantly, sincere love for animals. This profession demands great resistance to stress and composure.

Every zoo must have a veterinarian, because without a good and skilled "doctor Aybolit" the existence of the zoo is impossible. Veterinarians treat diseases and injuries of animals, help them to be born if necessary, carry out a lot of work on disease prevention, vaccinate, disinfect, control the quality of animal feed.

The staff of Mykolaiv Zoo sincerely congratulates our veterinarians on a professional holiday. We wish them health and success in their difficult but necessary work! After all, in their hands is a difficult and responsible matter. It is nice to know that people who work in this field of medicine are dedicated to their profession, for them their job is a vocation, eternal anxiety and daily hard work.
